I know people are generally less inclined to purchase skincare from direct marketing companies such as Mary Kay, BeautiControl, etc.; however, the ladies in my family have been using BeautiControl for YEARS!! Literally, as far back as I can remember, my mother and my great aunt always had some BeautiControl products in their beauty repertoire. I first began using BeautiControl in college because I have very sensitive skin, and it was the ONLY thing that every cleared up my skin and prevented hormonal breakouts. Unfortunately, they’ve discontinued the line I used in college, and have since launched their “Spa Facial” line. The Spa Facial line features an array of products from Microderm Abrasaion to Acid Peels to the MOST amazing lip peel/butter you’ll ever use. Needless to say, I’m a big fan of their skincare products. Whether you have sensitive skin (like me), oily skin, dry skin (also like me), or combination skin, I highly recommend this line as it is versatile for all skin types. I don’t use every product of their line, but there are a few products I just cannot stop using. This eye creme is one of them. So, let’s get down to why it’s my favorite!
First of all, I think we can all agree that this packaging is beautiful. It’s sturdy and looks quite expensive. It travels well, and has never chipped on me, despite my clumsiness.
Next, it doesn’t really have a smell, other than a general eye cream smell. I like this because I think we all want our eye creme fragrance free. I do not want irritating fragrances around my eye areas, unless they are all natural. The texture of the creme is super silky even though it is dense and thick.
Third, I’ve been through about four of these pots. They last FOREVER!!! My most recent pot has lasted me nearly 6 months. The pot itself is 0.5 oz, but the formula is quite thick and you don’t need that much. So, six months at $35 is essentially $5.83/month for some of the best eye creme I might ever use. That’s less than a Subway meal deal.
I use it both morning and night. Make sure with eye creme that it is the FIRST thing you put on your face after washing, whether morning or night! If you wait, it may not absorb into the skin properly over top other products!
I don’t know exactly what ingredient makes it so amazing, but about 3-5 minutes after it sinks into your skin, you know something is happening. If you touch your eye area lightly, you’ll feel any possible dead skin rubbing off. Granted, you don’t want to rub your eye area, but it’s so hard not do to so lightly with this creme. The sloughing off of dead skin cells is so important in skin care because dead skin can clog pores and prevent cell turnover. So, if they are sloughing off around your eye area that means that you are getting some great cell turnover. This eye creme also contains algae extract and peptides which encourage speedy cell turnover because peptides give you the foundation to build collagen. Collagen is the ingredient in your skin that keeps it plump and wrinkle-free or wrinkled less. I really enjoy knowing and tangibly being able to see that my skin is renewing itself, as the packaging claims, right before my eyes.
It also contains hyaluronic filling spheres. If you’re not familiar with hyaluronic anything, this stuff is what we should all be looking for in skincare products. Hyaluronic Acid is the base of nearly anything you’ll find containing “hyaluronic” anything. It’s an acid that is naturally found in the body and is most present in fluids around the joints and eyes. Hyaluronic Acid has many uses for the body and eyes, but it’s greatest skincare attribute is that it is a magnificent moisturizer. It fills up wrinkles in the skin by swelling when it comes in contact with natural water in the skin and increases in volume utilizing a micro-resevoir effect. Since I have both dry and dehydrated skin, I am always on the lookout for products containing hyaluronic (hyaluronan) acid. Getting moisture into the skin, especially the eye area, can actually reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles because dry skin just makes your lines and wrinkles both look worse and deepen. Caroline Hirons said it best on her blog (which is my FAVORITE skincare blog) when she said, “Skin is made up of 70% water – around 20-30% of that is in the epidermis (top layer of the skin). In normal circumstances, your hydrolipidic film acts as a regulator and barrier – retaining moisture and protecting against germs. If – for whatever reason that is compromised, the moisture in the epidermis evaporates too quickly and the normal, healthy state of the skin is compromised.”
With this eye cream, I find my skin to be hydrated, plump, and the lines around my eyes less visible each day. I smile A LOT, so I am okay with having lines around my eyes, but this is one of those creams that really scales them back, especially in colder weather when my skin tends to be super dry.
At the end of the day, I will always try other eye creams, but this is one to which I will ALWAYS return. It is my absolute favorite.
