We’ve made it to Part 4 of the “Empties” series here on BitterGlitter. I thought I would save the best for last, and that’s the makeup empties! So, here we go!!

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Flared Washable Mascara, $8, available at drugstores

This is one of my favorite drug store mascaras. I believe the tube pictured here is my third one. I have used the regular version, just called “The Falsies,” and I prefer the “Flared” version. The formula contains keratin, which is a naturally occurring protein in hair, skin, and nails, which helps to strengthen the lashes and provide elasticity. The wand on this one is flexible, but not too bendy (if that’s a real word). I find that the curved shape almost exactly mimics the curve of the eye making it easy to apply. On me, this doesn’t flake or smudge, but I have friends who have said it did smudge on them, so I’m not really certain why there’s a difference there. I haven’t personally had any issues with smudging with this mascara, but if you have oily eyelids, you may encounter this problem. (To combat that, I recommend using an eye primer.) As far as the “flared” portion of this mascara, it basically curls your lashes a little toward the outer corner of the eye. (I’m guessing this is due to the unique combination of the wand and the formula.) The benefit of flared lashes on the outer corner is that it really opens the eye and gives you a wide-eyed look. I am huge fan of this mascara, and coming in between $5-$8 at most drug stores, it’s one I will continue to repurchase.

Quick tip: don’t let this one dry between coats! You’ll get a much better look applying the second coat when the first is still wet.

Oh this stuff is pure loveliness!! But first, let me say that I have not been on the BB Creme bandwagon. This is the only one I own, because I feel like BB Creme is just an over marketed tinted moisturizer. But this one….oh Dior. How I love thee. The DiorSkin Nude BB Creme comes in 5 shades, which is a bit limited in my opinion. I use shade 002, and fortunately, it’s a near match for my skintone. It contains SPF 10, which is a bit of a bummer, as I’d prefer SPF 15 or SPF 20, but I digress. The reason I like this one so much is that it provides really great coverage without feeling heavy or looking cakey. It smooths and buffs into the skin so easily, leaving you with balanced tone and a healthy glow. I also love the packaging. It contains a pump on the end (I only use one pump per day) which helps to conserve the product and obtain longevity with use. Even more, the pump is structured such that you get every bit of product from the tube. I really hate it when you’re left with product you cannot get out of the packaging. I find this to be a foundation that would be suitable for all skin types and year round. The DiorSkin Nude BB Creme is also very moisturizing without being too oily. It is my every day foundation, and I will continue to purchase this product.

I’m not going to go into too much detail, but I will tell you that I absolutely love this mascara. It’s long wearing and has the most amazing dual-sided want to coat every lash and create intense volume. I’ve done a full blog post on it with photos, and you can see that here.

This is one of my favorite products, as you can see by the beating the packaging has taken from me. It functions as a highlighting concealer. I’ve been through about 10 of these tubes. One end contains a brush, and the other a twist up pump. The product pumps up from the bottom and into the brush for application, and it really makes application neat and easy. It really brightens the under eye/high cheekbone areas and adds a great highlight wherever you choose to put it. It’s creamy and can even be applied atop powder products without getting all weird looking. I’ve used it in a photo tutorial, so you can see how I used it. That tutorial can be found here. I also have an in-depth concealer run down, where this product is featured, and you can find that one here.

So, that completes the First Quarter Empties Series, beauties! I hope you’ve enjoyed it. I’ll be back with another Empties Series in July.

Stay Glittery!

xoxo,

Candice
